Notes regarding comments

Heritage railways are usually run by volunteers who give up their spare time to make it possible for you to visit their work. While all the heritage railways and museums listed on this site welcome visitors, it's important to remember that many of them are not professionally-run tourist attractions but charitable or voluntary societies concerned primarily with the task of preserving our railway heritage and restoring locomotives and rolling stock back to working order. If you have any criticisms to make, therefore, please bear that in mind when writing your comments. Constructive and informed criticism is welcome, but unsubstantiated moaning is not! Submissions that appear to be unnecessarily negative or agressive in tone, therefore, will not usually be published.

Notes regarding photographs

1. Please only upload photographs that either are your own, or you where have explicit permission from the owner to distribute them, or where the image is known to be in the Public Domain. Please do not upload photographs taken from other websites, or scans from books, etc, unless you are certain that doing so is not a breach of copyright.
2. When uploading a photograph, you have the choice of three copyright licence options:
   1. Giving specific, limited permission to RailwayStations.info to use the photo on this site and its associated activities.
   2. Publishing it under a Creative Commons licence (specifically, Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 UK: England & Wales)
   3. Stating it to be in the Public Domain.
   If you are unsure of which to choose, or if you are unfamiliar with copyright licencing, select Limited Permission (which is the default, so you can just leave it alone). See the boring legal stuff page for more details about what this means.
3. If you know the date that a photograph was taken, then please include that in your submission. If you don't know the exact date, then just a month and year (eg, 02/2008) or even just a year (eg, 1999) will be good enough. This is particularly important for older photos. Where possible, the upload system will try to extract time/date information from the embedded EXIF data added by your digital camera, but that's not always reliable and doesn't work at all for images scanned from prints.
4. If you have a large number of photos that you would like to contribute to this project, and don't fancy uploading them one by one, then get in touch and we'll see if we can work out a way of doing some kind of bulk import.
